CLUB INSURANCE

The YCB is aware that Clubs have recently received leaflets from various insurance companies. Clubs are, of course free to insure with whichever company they so choose but YCB stresses here that it continues to recommend one company and one company only and that is the Allianz-Cornhill Scheme, under the auspices of the ECB.

YCB`s general advice remains that, if a Club is considering changing its insurance provider, then it should compare the existing policy to the proposed one to ensure that, if a change in provider is approved, a like-for-like policy is secured and the Club is no less insured than it was previously.

INSURANCE

Club Insurance

There is a moral obligation on all committees to ensure that their clubs have adequate Insurance cover. This should include insurance of the premises and contents, the liability of the club to the general public, and to employees, and to insure members against the risks of injury whilst playing or working for the club, and last but not least the Association places special emphasis on the Cost of Legal Proceeding insurance as in recent years a number of clubs, not having this cover, have run into severe financial problems when suddenly faced with legal action over tenure of grounds etc.

The best way of protecting the club and its members is to take advantage of the E.C.B. Scheme arranged with the Cornhill Assurance by the brokers for the E.C.B., Marshall Wooldridge Ltd of Yeadon. It is YCB`s belief that adequate insurance arrangements should be made to protect clubs against the risk of :

1)Fire & Special Perils (Buildings & Contents)

2)Theft (Contents & Damage)

3)Consequential Loss

4)Loss of money

5)Public Liability

6)Employers Liability

7)All Risks (Trophies, Bags, Office contents, Videos, Artificial wickets nets and poles)

8)Cost of Legal Proceedings.

9)Loss of licence (applicable to clubs holding liquor licences)

Umpires Insurance

In addition to the above the Y.C.B. has arranged a scheme for Associations of Umpires to the benefit of Neutral Umpires who are not covered by the above E.C.B. Scheme. The Y.C.B.'s scheme provides a monetary benefit in the event of an injury incurred whilst the Umpire is involved in a cricket match or travelling to or from one and can be extended to include Public Liability of individual umpires who are insured against personal accident risks.

Fuller details and application forms for both the above schemes are available from The Y.C.B.'s Insurance Officer; Mr F R. Johnson, 6 The Crescent, Alwoodley Leeds LS17 7LX (0113 267 8472)
