Pathways to Excellence

The Pathways to Cricket Excellence Winter Coaching Scheme incorporates the coaching sessions run by the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Yorkshire Schools Cricket Association and the former YCA Centre of Excellence.

Boys and girls usually enter the scheme at Level 3 and hopefully progress to Level 1

THE MENS` SCHEME

Virtually all Yorkshire's current county players have progressed through the scheme.

Level 1

Yorkshire CCC players contracted to the Academy and scholarship players are YCCC Staff. Their coaching is dealt with at sessions supervised by the County Club`s Coaching Staff.

Once a Student attains Level I, he ceases to attend any other Pathways nets.

Level 2A

This is for established and identified talented players. This Centre currently meets at the Yorkshire Cricket Centre.

Level 2B

For identified talented developing players. There are two centres at this level. One Centre also currently meets at the Yorkshire Cricket Centre and the other at Harrogate Grammar School.

Level 3A

These are District-based Centres for improving and developing players. There are currently 7 such 3A Centres around the County, based at Northallerton Community College (North), Sheffield Utd Cricket School (South), The Normandy Barracks at RAF Leconfield (East) and Heckmondwike GS and Woodlands CC Sports Centres (both serving the West of the County). In addition, the Ormesby Sports Centre in Middlesbrough serves North Yorkshire and Cleveland and Burnholme Community College (York) takes Students from the York/Scarborough area.

Level 3B

This is a relatively newly instituted developmental level for young or developing players. Many will eventually enter the full Scheme at 3A. Sessions are held in Leeds and Bradford.

SPECIALIST COACHING SESSIONS - Each Centre Director will ensure that all his Staff can deal with batting and bowling and specialist sessions are also arranged for Wicket-Keepers. Last year, for the first time, specialist fielding sessions were also introduced.

THE WOMENS` SCHEME

Level 1

This is for those players who have played or who will play Senior Yorkshire matches in previous or the forthcoming Summer. Many also have extra sessions with ECB Development squads and have sound expectations of International honours as well. This Centre currently meets at the Yorkshire Cricket Centre

Level 2

This is for improving and identified talented players. The Centre currently meets at Heckmondwike GS.

Level 3

These are District-based Centres, currently based at St Mary`s High School in Menston (West Yorkshire) and the Sheffield Utd Cricket Centre in the South of the County. The YCB is pleased to be able to add to the Scheme, through the hard work of Development Officer Ian Dews and the advent of the ECB`s Active Sport initiative, a Development Centre for East Yorkshire, to be based at Bramcote School in Scarborough. The Board can now announce that it has (hopefully) resurrected the North Yorkshire Development Centre under the same Active Sport banner. It will be based at St John Fisher School in Harrogate for the Winter sessions, beginning in February 2004. The Centres cater for women and girls who would wish to learn the basics of the game. Some Students at these Centres are improving and developing players. They will be ear-marked by the Directors to move up to Level 2 eventually.

ADVICE ON NET ATTENDANCE FROM THE YORKSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB AND THE YCB

Once a Student accepts a place at any of the Centres within the Pathways Scheme, the YCB and the County Club strongly recommend that he attend no more than two net sessions per week. This usually means the weekend Pathways session and, if he is invited, the extra mid-week sessions that are normally arranged.
